Barbara Mori
If you’re ever on a date with this recently single Mexican beauty model, take note: Barbara says she only pays attention to a man if he is “caring about others and is a good human being”.Carla Dennis
The stunning Carla Dennis will make your bedtime dreams come true
South Africa’s Sexiestexport since Charlize Theron, Carla Dennis is a 25-year-old Cape Town native who packed her bags and moved to India a year ago to give her modeling career a boost. In her short time here, she’s been in numerous ad campaigns, including ones for Sony – with Kareena Kapoor – and Tanishq, and has appeared in several music videos. She was also a finalist in the 2010 Kingfisher Calendar Girl contest, making it to the top five. And even though we’re sitting in an ice-cold conference room when we meet, her bubbly personality and scorching good looks make us pretty nervous, and sweaty. It’s like high school all over again.
Garima Parnami
We’ve been seeing a lot of 24-year-old Garima Parnami in the last year – from a stunning shoot in Vogue India to the Taj Hotels’ calendar, via numerous magazine covers, editorials and fashion runways. “Suddenly, everybody has started noticing me,” she says, still sounding like that comes as a surprise. We reckon it’s kind of hard not to notice this achingly beautiful Delhiite. With her sights set on a shift to international modelling, Parnami believes that the era of Indian fashion’s obsession with fair skin is well and truly over. “It really took a long time, but people have started accepting us. We’re also beautiful, you know?”
Genelia D’Souza
Genelia D’Souza first hit mainstream success in last year’s Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, as the archetypal girl-next-door Aditi. She’s made a specialty of playing the cute-girl-you-didn’t notice-was-cute, but, Genelia, we think you’re all woman.
Indrani Dasgupta
Indrani Dasgupta is quite a regular face on television adverts and has been in the business of looking good since 2001. She has also managed to find a husband who isn’t threatened by living with a woman every man wants to take home to Mummy.
Jacqueline Fernandez
Sri Lankan stunner Jacqueline Fernandez has some tips for handling traffic cops (it helps if you’re, like, in a film with the Big B)
Jacqueline Fernandez had a dream of becoming the next Christiane Amanpour, CNN’s renowned chief international correspondent. But, while working at a television station in Sri Lanka, the then 21-year-old half-Malay, half- Sri Lankan beauty wound up winning the Miss Sri Lanka contest in 2006. A modelling contract in Mumbai was followed by a role in the movie Aladin, out later this month, starring alongside Riteish Deshmukh, Amitabh Bachchan and Sanjay Dutt. She’s enjoying the success, proof that taking a big risk up north has paid off. “When I actually reflect on me coming here and getting Aladin, I kind of pride myself on it,” she says. “It was a big move. And it took guts.”
Katrina Kaif
Asia’s most Googled woman, and one of India’s biggest female stars, talks early stardom and the perils of success with Feroz Tobaccowalla
Asia’s most Googled woman, and one of India’s biggest female stars, talks early stardom and the perils of success with Feroz Tobaccowalla
In a high-slit, low-cut, fireengine red Versace dress, Katrina Kaif cuts a long, thin, scarlet ribbon against the bright white backdrop of her GQ shoot. She struts and turns, lets one of those famous stems peek out from within the folds of her dress. Flashbulbs pop, she pouts, she smiles, she smoulders.
You wouldn’t think it to look at her, but Katrina Kaif leads a pretty lonely life. “Obviously, one doesn’t have that thing of having a bunch of childhood friends around or family around, so, in that sense, it can be a little lonely at times,” she says.Kaif has made sacrifices along the way to becoming one of the biggest stars in Bollywood. “When you join this industry, I think the only sacrifice you make, really, is time,” she says. “You don’t have time to have much of a social life or have friends outside the industry – but the disadvantages are far outweighed by the benefits.” Kaif has been reaping those benefits for the past five years, since she was catapulted from being a walk-on model to Abhishek Bachchan’s arm candy in Sarkar to the biggest female star in India.
